Nate Winters is headed to Athens, OH. The 6-foot-7 guard in the Class of 2027 has committed to Ohio University, giving head coach Jeff Boals a promising perimeter addition. Winters, who attends Westminster Academy in Fort Lauderdale, chose the Bobcats over offers that included UIC, Chattanooga, Arkansas State and Kennesaw State.
The former Osborne standout has continued building momentum since his time in metro Atlanta, brought his game to Westminster Academy, FL. Winters brings an appealing combination of size, shot creation and versatility. He can knock down perimeter jumpers, attack off the bounce and use his length to finish around the basket. His ability to rebound and push the ball also allows him to create opportunities before defenses get set.
For Ohio, the appeal goes beyond adding another scorer. Winters has the tools to play alongside a lead guard, handle secondary playmaking responsibilities and attack mismatches on the perimeter.
His size gives him opportunities to shoot over smaller defenders, while his length offers potential to cover multiple positions defensively. That flexibility could give Boals more options as the Bobcats work to improve on last season’s 15–17 finish.
Winters still has development ahead. Adding strength, becoming a more consistent shooter and making sound decisions against college pressure will help determine how quickly he contributes. His senior season should provide valuable preparation for that transition.
Ohio is getting a guard with an extremely bright future with several ways to influence a game and room to grow. If Winters continues sharpening his perimeter skills and turns his defensive tools into consistent production, he could develop into a valuable piece of the Bobcats’ rotation.
