Lucai Anderson Commits to Michigan

Michigan has added a guard whose basketball journey already stretches beyond the American high school game.

Lucai Anderson, a four-star prospect in the Class of 2027, committed to the Wolverines on October 14, giving head coach Mike Boynton Jr. his first high school commitment since taking over the program. The IMG Academy guard brings size, scoring ability and experience competing with Germany’s youth national teams.

For Michigan, Anderson offers the potential to contribute in multiple backcourt roles. He can create offense with the ball in his hands, find teammates and provide another scoring option alongside a primary ball handler. That versatility gives the Wolverines room to develop his game as his responsibilities grow.

Anderson’s performance at the 2026 FIBA U18 EuroBasket provided a meaningful look at those possibilities. Representing Germany, he averaged 15.0 points, 4.9 assists and 3.0 rebounds across seven games, finishing fourth in the tournament in assists. Against Lithuania, he delivered 24 points, six rebounds and five assists.

His connection to Germany comes through his father, Christian Anderson Sr., who was born in Berlin and played professionally in Europe. After earning a place in Germany’s U16 program, Lucai progressed to a substantial role with the U18 team, gaining experience against some of Europe’s top young players.

That international résumé adds substance to his recruitment. Anderson has been asked to do more than finish possessions; he has carried responsibility for creating opportunities for others. His next step is becoming more consistent with those decisions. He averaged 4.4 turnovers at the U18 tournament and shot 34.1 percent from three, leaving clear areas to sharpen before college.

Anderson will continue that work at IMG Academy in Bradenton, Florida, after transferring from Trinity Christian School in Lubbock, Texas, for the 2026–27 season. He averaged 21.3 points, 4.8 rebounds and 2.9 assists at Trinity Christian. His IMG season presents another opportunity to show how his scoring and playmaking translate alongside other high-level prospects.

There is also a familiar family connection to Ann Arbor. His older brother, Christian Anderson, originally committed to Michigan under Juwan Howard. After Howard was fired following the 2023–24 season, Christian reopened his recruitment and ultimately chose Texas Tech.

Now Lucai has made his own decision to join the Wolverines, drawn by Boynton’s confidence in him and the opportunity to contribute both on and off the ball.

For Michigan, the commitment establishes a starting point for its 2027 recruiting class. Anderson brings proven production, international experience and the potential to grow into a versatile college guard. How quickly he earns a significant role will depend on his progress, but the Wolverines have secured a prospect with a strong foundation to build upon.
