Jakyi Miles Chooses Arizona State, Reclassifies to 2027

By Make5Media Staff | October 26, 2026

Jakyi Miles is keeping his college career close to home. The AZ Compass Prep point guard committed to Arizona State on Monday and announced he will move into the 2027 class, putting him on track to join the Sun Devils for the 27–28 season. For Miles, a Mesa native who began his high school career at Mesa High before transferring to Compass Prep in Chandler, the decision means continuing his basketball journey in familiar surroundings.

“It’s just home,” Miles said during his announcement. “It’s right there in my backyard.” Miles had established himself as a top-30 prospect in the 2028 class before deciding to move up a year. His offer list included Kansas, USC, Texas, Texas Tech, NC State and Baylor, giving him plenty of opportunities to leave Arizona. Instead, he chose to stay and play for Randy Bennett. His commitment gives the Sun Devils a scoring guard comfortable creating with the ball in his hands. Miles can find his own offense, and his ability to get going in stretches makes him a threat a defense has to track throughout a possession. That scoring ability is a useful starting point for a young guard entering the BIG12.

For Arizona State, Miles adds a different piece to a class that already includes four-star forwards Howard Williams and Carson Crawford. With two forwards committed, bringing in a guard gives the staff more balance as it continues putting the group together. Landing Miles also gives Bennett a meaningful win within the state. Arizona produces enough talent that keeping a player home usually means beating programs with national reach. Arizona State did that here, landing an elite prospect who had options well beyond the Valley of the Sun.  This decision gives the Sun Devils another promising piece for 2027 and gives an Arizona prospect the chance to build his college career close to the people who have watched him grow.
