Butler and San Diego State added to their 2027 recruiting classes Monday, while Kansas landed a veteran who could help this season.
Tyson Chandler II committed to Butler following his official visit, Mahamadou Diop chose San Diego State over UNLV, and former Purdue forward Trey Kaufman-Renn joined Kansas.
Tyson Chandler II — Butler
Allen High School (TX) | 6’9” Forward | Class of 2027
Tyson Chandler II announced his commitment Monday following a weekend visit to Butler, joining point guard J’Lon Lyons in Ronald Nored’s 2027 class.
The Texas prospect has a familiar name. His father spent 19 seasons in the NBA, won a championship and earned Defensive Player of the Year honors. The younger Chandler is developing his own game, using his length around the basket while showing the ability to step outside and shoot.
Chandler still needs strength and greater offensive consistency, but his combination of size and mobility gives Butler an intriguing forward to develop. Alongside Lyons, he gives Nored two recruits who address different needs: a guard to direct the offense and a forward who can finish plays while expanding his skill set.
His final season at Allen offers a chance to turn those flashes into more dependable production before taking on the physical demands of the Big East.
Mahamadou Diop — San Diego State
San Gabriel Academy (CA) | 6’11” Center | Class of 2027
San Diego State followed Sunday’s commitment from Precious Sam by adding another big man Monday.
Mahamadou Diop chose the Aztecs over UNLV, giving Brian Dutcher a third commitment in the 2027 class. The Mali native joins Sam and Windward School guard Davey Harris.
Diop can challenge shots, rebound and give guards a target above the basket. His ability to run the floor creates opportunities for easy baskets before a defense gets organized. Those strengths should give him ways to contribute while he develops a more complete offensive game.
His fit at San Diego State starts with defense and rebounding. Handling contact and staying disciplined around the rim will be important as he adjusts to college basketball, but the physical tools are there.
With Diop and Sam committed, Dutcher has secured two interior prospects to develop alongside Harris on the perimeter. Their roles will take shape over time, but the Aztecs have addressed their future frontcourt with consecutive commitments.
Trey Kaufman-Renn — Kansas
Purdue Transfer | 6’9” Forward
Kansas added another experienced option for its frontcourt just weeks before the season.
The Jayhawks announced Monday that Trey Kaufman-Renn has joined the program after his career at Purdue. He averaged 14.2 points, 8.3 rebounds and 2.5 assists last season, shooting 57.8 percent from the field.
Bill Self is getting a forward who knows how to establish position, score inside and make decisions with the ball. Kaufman-Renn also brings experience from a national championship game and several deep tournament runs, giving Kansas another veteran accustomed to the demands of postseason basketball.
His arrival follows the recent returns of Tre White and Melvin Council Jr., adding experience around the Jayhawks’ younger players. Learning a new offense and building chemistry this late in the fall will take work, but Kaufman-Renn’s background should help with that adjustment.
His eligibility remains unresolved. Kaufman-Renn is seeking a sixth year in college through ongoing litigation, and Monday’s announcement does not guarantee his availability for the full season. If he remains eligible, Kansas has added a productive scorer and rebounder who could make an immediate difference inside.
