6’5″ CG Anthony Walcott is taking his game to Fairfield. The Riviera Prep senior confirmed his commitment Tuesday, giving head coach Chris Casey a guard whose athleticism and activity show up well beyond the scoring column. Before moving to Riviera Prep, Walcott averaged 14.1 points and 6.8 rebounds at Pembroke Pines Charter, where he was part of a state championship team.
Walcott can turn a defensive rebound into a fast break without waiting for an outlet pass. He gets out in transition, finishes above the rim and finds opportunities moving without the ball. His length also helps him pressure ball handlers and disrupt passing lanes.
For Fairfield, that versatility is the attraction. Walcott gives the Stags a perimeter player who can create possessions on defense and do something with it on the other end. His ability to rebound from the guard position should also give Casey more flexibility with his lineups.
Fairfield has secured a prospect with the tools to grow into a substantial role.
