Georgia basketball has landed another significant piece of its 2027 recruiting class with Woodward Academy guard Jarvis Hayes Jr. committing to the Bulldogs. The 6-foot-5 guard joins North Oconee standout Justin Wise, giving Georgia two talented in-state perimeter players who could become important building blocks for the program’s future. Hayes, one of the top players in the country, has established himself as one of the top backcourt prospects in his class, bringing size, scoring ability and versatility on both ends of the floor. For head coach Mike White, the addition continues an important trend of keeping high-level Georgia talent close to home.
For Hayes, the decision carries a deeper meaning. His father, Jarvis Hayes Sr., starred at Georgia before becoming the 10th overall pick in the 2003 NBA Draft, while his uncle, Jonas Hayes, also wore the red and black during his playing career. Both are now members of the Georgia basketball staff, bringing the family’s connection with the program full circle. Jarvis Jr. now has an opportunity to write his own chapter in Athens, and his commitment gives the Bulldogs a player with not only SEC bloodlines, but the talent and potential to make an impact of his own.
The commitment also creates an interesting storyline that could extend beyond the 2027 class. Is this the first of two Hayes brothers who could eventually call Athens home? Jarvis’ younger brother, 2028 guard Myles Hayes, also plays at Woodward Academy and is regarded by Make5Media as one of the premier players nationally in his class. His recruitment still has plenty of time to develop, and nothing should be assumed, but Georgia now has a unique connection few programs can match: his father and uncle on staff, his older brother committed to the Bulldogs, and a program increasingly prioritizing elite talent from its own backyard.
