Matthew Able Commits to Miami Hurricanes

Matthew Able, a standout shooting guard from Sagemont Prep School in Fort Lauderdale, FL, announced his college commitment to the Miami Hurricanes, where he will play under Head Coach Jim Larrañaga. Able, a 6’5″ rising star, chose Miami over other top programs, including Northwestern, Wake Forest, and Virginia Tech. The Hurricanes’ recent success in developing guards, sending three to the NBA over the past two seasons which played a key role in his decision.

Able was one of the biggest stock-risers in the country this past summer, gaining significant attention while playing for Southeast Elite, part of the Adidas circuit under the Austin Rivers program. His impressive performances earned him recognition as a top prospect.

After committing to Miami, Able took some time to talk with Make 5 about his journey, his decision, and what’s next.

What’s been the difference for you between last year and now?

“The biggest difference for me between last year and now has been the opportunity I had with Southeast Elite and the role they gave me. They put me in a position to take on more responsibility and really showcase my abilities on the court. That experience allowed me to develop my game further and gain confidence, which has had a huge impact on my overall growth as a player.”

How did the NBPA Top 100 Camp helped?

“The NBPA Top 100 Camp was huge for me and really kicked off my summer. After that camp, I received several high-major offers, which helped boost my profile and made me a highly touted and intriguing prospect. It was definitely a pivotal moment in my recruitment and development.”

What we’re trying to achieve this season and your developmental focus?

“This year, my main goal is to win a state championship with Sagemont Prep. On a personal level, I’m focused on putting on weight and ensuring that I’m ready to make an immediate impact when I step onto the court at Miami.

Why did you choose Miami?

“I chose Miami because of the culture they’ve built there. The combination of an incredible coaching staff and a winning environment made it clear that Miami was the perfect place for me.”

Whats a fun fact about you?

“A fun fact about me that many people might not know is that I’m pretty good at Madden. In fact, last year I ranked in the top 1,000 players in the world.

Whose your favorite player and the tougest player you had to defend?

“When it comes to my favorite players, I really admire Anthony Edwards and Donovan Mitchell. As for the toughest competition I’ve faced, that would probably be Mikel Brown.”
