Deron Rippey Jr. is making a strong case as one of the top guards in the Class of 2026. The Blair Academy floor general recently led his team to a 24–4 record, earning the prestigious honor of 2024–25 Gatorade New Jersey Boys Basketball Player of the Year. Rippey’s leadership, poise, and two-way impact have elevated his game and solidified his place among the nation’s elite. His performance last weekend at the Adidas 3SSB Circuit in Bryan, Texas, was another reminder of his consistency and maturity. Leading New Heights, Rippey who averaged 15.8 mpg, 4.0 rebs, 4.8 asst and 1.3 stls has displayed control, confidence and the ability to shine in high-pressure moments.
Schools like Rutgers, Syracuse, Alabama, NC State, North Carolina, Louisville, and Arkansas are actively recruiting the standout point guard. When asked about where things stand with his recruitment, Rippey shared:
“Recruitment is going well. More schools are starting to show interest after my junior season, and with the end of the transfer portal, things are starting to heat up. I’ll be talking with my dad over the coming months about official visits and singling out some schools.”
His strategic, patient approach to recruiting reflects the same level-headed decision-making he shows on the court. With his steady climb in rankings, consistent grassroots performances, and list of accolades, it’s no surprise he’s one of the most sought-after guards in the country.
Beyond the stat sheet, Rippey plays with the signature edge of a New York City guard thats gritty, confident, and fearless.
“Being a hooper from New York has always been special to me,” Rippey said. “The swagger, grit, and intensity that’s always been associated with NYC hoops definitely shows in my game. I take pride in that.”
That toughness and edge are rooted in more than just geography, it comes from a tight-knit, competitive family that fuels his ambition. His favorite players are Derrick Rose, Ja Morant, De’Aaron Fox and Donovan Mitchell
“My close family motivates me to keep getting better,” he added. “With my sister being at the Division I level, she’s shown incredible grit and perseverance in her career, which I’ve taken into account in my own. My dad constantly pushes me to be a better player and person—he never fails to remind me what I can be with God’s plan. And my mom is always supportive. Through the ups and downs, she’s the one who keeps me rolling.”
Deron Rippey Jr. isn’t just a rising recruit, he’s a program-changer in the making. With his blend of talent, toughness, and maturity, the New York native is positioning himself to be a name we’ll hear at the next level and beyond. He’s currently ranked No. 15 nationally by Make5 Media, further cementing his status as a premier prospect.
